What to expect during Teeth whitening procedure
- Your dentist will take impressions of your teeth using a putty-like material. This will be used to create a custom whitening tray that fits your teeth perfectly.
- The whitening tray will be filled with a whitening gel that contains hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide. These chemicals work to break down the bonds that hold stains to your teeth, making them whiter.
- You will wear the whitening tray for 30 minutes to an hour each day for a period of time, typically 2 weeks. The length of time will depend on the severity of the stains on your teeth.
- You may experience some sensitivity for a few days after the procedure. This is usually temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
- Your teeth will become whiter over time and the results will last for several months. However, the color of your teeth can fade over time due to exposure to food, drinks, and smoking.
- Your dentist will give you instructions on how to care for your teeth after the procedure. This includes brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day, using a fluoride toothpaste, and avoiding sugary foods and drinks.
